Difference, Ocean One 39 against the 124060: 2 mm less across, 0.82 mm shorter lug to lug, the same 12.5 mm height, and a strap 1 mm narrower. Against the 114060: 1 mm less across, up to about 1.2 mm shorter (WatchGuys gives 48 mm; Bob’s Watches gives about 46.8–48 mm for the 16610 and 114060), the same 20 mm strap width.
124060 or 114060: which Submariner are you comparing against?
Rolex replaced the 40 mm Submariner 114060 with the 41 mm 124060 in 2020. The diameter went up by 1 mm, but the lug-to-lug did not: WatchGuys gives about 48 mm for the 114060 and about 47.6 mm for the 124060, because Rolex made the lugs thinner and more tapered. Monochrome reports that the lug width grew from 20 mm to 21 mm, and the bracelet with it. Rolex lists calibre 3130 with about 48 hours of power reserve for the 114060, and calibre 3230 with about 70 hours for the 124060.
So the answer depends on the reference. Next to the current 124060, the Ocean One 39 is clearly the smaller watch across the dial and the strap. Next to the older 114060, the difference is 1 mm across and up to about 1.2 mm in length, and the straps are the same width. The length difference depends on the source: WatchGuys gives 48 mm for the 114060, and Bob’s Watches gives about 46.8–48 mm in one row for the 16610 and 114060 together.
How the difference shows on the wrist
Lug-to-lug is the length the case covers across the top of the wrist. Between the Ocean One 39 and the 124060 that length differs by less than 1 mm, so a wrist that fits one by length fits the other. The difference you see is width: 2 mm more case across, and a bracelet that starts 1 mm wider at the lugs on the 124060. Height is the same on these figures, so neither sits higher under a cuff.
Bob’s Watches makes a related point from its own measurements: the 41 mm 124060 and the 40 mm 114060 feel similar on the wrist, because the older case has slightly thicker lugs. Diameter alone does not predict how a Submariner-shape case wears.
