Is the Pagani Design PD-1644 a Santos homage?

No. Despite being widely recommended as one, the PD-1644 is a round 40mm chronograph running a Seiko VK63 meca-quartz, sold on Oyster and Jubilee bracelets, and Pagani Design's own catalog files it in the Daytona family. It is not a square watch and has no exposed bezel screws. We listed it as a Santos homage ourselves until August 2026 and corrected it after checking Pagani's own store.

Do Seiko, Casio or Cadisen make a Santos homage?

No. Those searches come up constantly but none of those brands makes a square screwed-bezel watch in the Santos mould — we checked Cadisen's full catalog and it contains no square watch at all. The genuine field is two watches: one automatic and one thin quartz Santos-Dumont-style piece, both from Specht & Söhne.

Every score below is this site’s published fidelity rubric, 0–100 on design language alone. The Santos predates the wristwatch as most people know it — Cartier built it for the aviator Santos-Dumont in 1904 — and its square case with exposed bezel screws is still instantly readable a century on. Those screws are the whole game for a homage. But this is the thinnest field we cover, and the reason is worth your attention before you spend anything: most of the watches recommended as Santos homages are not Santos homages. Two survive checking, ranked on our fidelity rubric. Every fidelity score here follows the published rubric, and each model number and price is read from the brand’s own store, with the date recorded against the row.

Three models that fail the check — including one we got wrong

The most-recommended "Santos homage" on the internet is the Pagani Design PD-1644, and it is not a square watch. Pagani's own store lists it as a round 40mm chronograph running a Seiko VK63 meca-quartz, sold on Oyster and Jubilee bracelets, filed in their Daytona family. It has no exposed bezel screws because it has no square bezel. We listed it here as the value pick ourselves until 13 August 2026, and removed it the day we checked Pagani's catalog directly. A site whose whole claim is that you can check everything does not get to quietly correct itself.

Two more fail for different reasons. A Cadisen "Santos-style automatic" circulates through listicles, but Cadisen's catalog — all 130 products — contains no square watch and never has. And Berny's AM136 was real, but it has been removed from the brand's own store and survives only as unverifiable third-party listings.

One buying warning that matters more than any of this: Specht & Söhne's official site publicly flags lookalike domains selling "its" watches as scams. Buy the two watches below only from spechtandsohnewatches.com, the store the brand itself operates.

Two honest gaps against the original: it wears 37mm where the large Santos is 39.8mm, which puts it closer to the medium reference, and water resistance is 50m against the original's 100m. 2. Specht & Söhne SP0011Q3 — the Dumont-style dress take Specht & Söhne ↗

About $134, fidelity 62 — and that score deserves an explanation, because it is scored against the modern Santos, which is this page's reference. Read it instead as a homage to the smooth-bezel Santos-Dumont and it makes far more sense: a 34mm square just 8.6mm thick, with a Seiko VH31 quartz whose seconds hand sweeps rather than ticks. If the watch in your head is the elegant vintage square rather than the sportier screwed bezel, this is the one worth having — and the brand's mid-range automatic squares sell out often, so the quartz is usually what is actually buyable — checked in stock at $134 on 22 September 2026.

Santos or Santos-Dumont?

Cartier sells two different squares and homage shoppers constantly mix them up. The Santos is the sportier one: visible bezel screws, integrated bracelet, 100m rating. The Santos-Dumont is the dress version: smooth bezel, leather strap, thin case. Decide which square you mean first — it splits this two-watch list cleanly, and it is the single question that determines whether you will be happy with either.

The honest summary: if you want the modern Santos look with a mechanical movement, the SP0037A1 is effectively the only currently-sold answer, and $278 is what that costs. If you want the thin vintage square, the SP0011Q3 at $134 is better value and a better watch for the purpose.
